Captchas

captcha-painting-2-gautam-rao-copyOver the past few weeks there has been an accelerated bombardment of spam attacks on one of my email accounts and this website. So, to remedy this I’ve installed a new plugin which forces unregistered users to fill out a Captcha. I hate to do it, but I hate the spam more. During this process I found some cool paintings of Captchas. The one above is one and the rest can be found on the artist Gautam Rao’s blog. He has some other Captcha paintings which can be found here. I especially like these works because I like referencing computers in art making:

Clean Computer

I love my computer. Its a second bedroom, my personal library, my music control center, and my communication device which connects me to millions of other people all around the world. I am often on my computer so I like it organized and easy to navigate. Some people think that computers distance us from reality and that they deteriorate human interaction, but I believe the opposite. I think it is important to realize that the computer is first and foremost a human tool, a human appendage so to speak. Technology is just as much a part of nature as are humans and the other animals that roam the earth. This I think is why I love posting images and words online.

To me the computer (and internet) have an almost a spiritual presence, like that of mother nature. Perhaps this is just because I’ve spent hours poking and prodding dying computers trying to get them to work; later building a new computer. Perhaps its just the time that I spend on a pc. Either way, I like the digital.
